"CESAR'S DREAM" – A VR ADAPTATION OF THE WORLD-FAMOUS SILENT FILM CLASSIC "DAS CABINET DES DR. CALIGARI"

"Cesar's Dream" is a VR adaptation of Robert Wiene’s  world-famous, silent film classic "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" from the year 1919. 100 years later, this 2019 interpretation has transformed the film’s script and storyline, placing it within an expressionistic, dream-like environment while artistically weaving elements of the original classic into a contemporary virtual experience. Through  a combination of holograms and virtual environments, the viewer moves amidst the actors in the scene and is immersed in the center of the action.

The volumetric video was captured at the VOLUCAP Studio in Potsdam-Babelsberg and uses a technology that allows the holographic capturing of real actors that can be placed in both AR and VR environments. Volumetric video is considered a worldwide innovation in the field of VR and a key technology for special computing.

For the VR experience, two well-known Polish actors stood in front of the camera: Dr. Caligari is played by Arkadiusz Jakubik, and Cesar is played by Jakub Gierszał, who has achieved fame through innovative projects such as "Suicide Room."

Cesar’s Dream is currently part of the installation "Das Kabinett," which will be shown in Krakow and Turin starting from summer 2019. Further European stations are planned including the 100th anniversary of the silent film classic during Berlin’s BERLINALE in February 2020.
